Beat the Bookies: Week 23

ACCRINGTON Stanley failed to beat Stockport last week although with a lot of upsets in League Two at the weekend there was plenty of money to be made by backing the long odds teams, just not the one we selected this time!

Grimsby head to Dagenham this weekend with five wins under their belts and confidence sky high against a Dagenham side whose recent record is poor and now undeniably facing a desperate relegation struggle. Surprisingly Daggers are favourites to win at Victoria Road, a home win being available at 6/4, and a Grimsby win a best priced 8/5 with bet365. Admittedly some of Town's recent results have flattered them, but with Dagenham's recent record being so poor, it seems odd to make Daggers the favourites to win what would have been a six pointer a few weeks ago.

Last week's opponents Wrexham have considerably strengthened their side in recent days and their miserable run of form is surely due to improve soon. Do the bookies take this into account, or do they just look at recent results? They nearly got something from the game on Saturday, and this week face leaders MK Dons at home. MK Dons lost at home to Barnet last weekend and will face an onslaught in front of the passionate Welsh crowd at the Racecourse. William Hill are offering 9/2 on the Red Dragons grabbing three points. At the time of writing this is quite a bit adrift from the rest of the bookies, so grab it while you can!

The big match at the top this weekend is Chesterfield v Hereford, presumably televised as it is on Monday night. Chesterfield have slipped up recently, losing their last three games starting off when we beat them! Hereford on the other hand are going from strength to strength and look destined for an automatic promotion place as well as the FA Cup fourth round. Hereford are generally available at 2/1 to see the Spireites lose their fourth successive game.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Wrexham to beat MK Dons (9/2, William Hills).
  • 2. Hereford to be Chesterfield (2/1, bet365).
