TOWN are considering taking part in a pre-season tournament in Devon this summer. The tournament in Appledore and Bideford is known by the grandiose title of the Errea South West Challenge Cup.

The eight-team knock-out tournament will feature a number of English teams, with three games at Appledore and six games at Bideford, from July 23-27.

The provisional list of teams are: Crystal Palace, Bideford, Grimsby Town, Hereford United;, Torquay United, Kidderminster Harriers, Eastleigh; and Clevedon Town.

The club have met the tournament organisers in Devon and are still thinking about it.

  • The reserves beat Lincoln 3-2 with goals by North, Bore and Taylor.

  • Town striker Gary Jones is out of hospital after a successful ankle operation, and is hoping to be able to walk again within two weeks.

Jones told the Grimsby Telegraph: "It was a straightforward operation and the consultant says it has been a success, though it's hard to tell as it's still a bit sore from the surgery.

"He showed me an X-ray before I was discharged to show what they had done in scraping the ankle bone and clearing it out.

"I'm on crutches now but should be able to put some weight on it in four or five days time.

"I'm due to go back and see the doctor in two weeks and hopefully should be back on my feet in no time.

Jones is out of contract in the summer, but if the operation goes well the 33-year-old is hoping for another year at Blundell Park.
