Clocking up the Miles

By: Matty Newton
Date: 18/05/2008

GRIMSBY fans will have to travel around 1000 additional miles next season if they go to every game. With Bournemouth, Gillingham, Luton coming down and Aldershot and Exeter coming up, League Two will have a more southern feel to it next year.

Two of the closest journeys, Peterborough and Mansfield, will no longer be on the fixture list next season, and whichever of Rochdale and Stockport get promoted means the disappearance of a team out of the nearest ten. Only the promotion of this season's most distant team Hereford and the relegation of the relatively near Port Vale constitutes good news travel-wise.

The total distance to travel to every game and back is now around 6,700 miles, equivalent to driving to Baghdad and back!

For London-based Mariners it is relatively good news with trips to nearby Wycombe, Gillingham, Luton and Aldershot in addition to the three games in the capital next season.
