"No disrespect to the likes of Grimsby..."

wednesday 12th november

Pinault

From Zoo magazine.

Former Mariner Thomas Pinault looks back on his time at Blundell Park

"Grimsby was a really bad place to live. The town was really old and there wasn't much to do there. It was full of fishermen and it smelled of fish all the time. It was not a very nice place to be and I prefer the smell of London"

Spotted by Daniel Rudd.

Clinton Woods

From The Express

Boxer Clinton Woods (after beating Glen Johnson to retain his title):

"Its Cleethorpes for me, my wife Natalia and our baby. We love it. Lots of long walks and air. Natalia is from Madrid but she wouldn't swap anywhere for the coast."

Contraception

From The Mirror

"Latest initiative from the Institute for Public policy research recommends that children should learn about contraception between the ages of 10 and 11. In the same week we learn that an alarming number of primary schoolkids have such a limited understanding of geography they can't even find England on a world map. Marvellous. A whole generation who will have no problem locating the G-spot-but not a clue where to find Grimsby"

Spotted by Darren Love.

From The Guardian

Italian Football

Sean Ingle is commenting on Bravo TV's decision to stop showing live Italian matches because of low audience figures.

"It was all so different in 1992 when three million tuned in for Channel 4's first Serie A match, a this-way-and-that 3-3 between Sampdoria and Lazio. In those early years viewing figures were bouyany helped by Paul Gascoigne, Des Walker, (David) Platt and Paul Ince chasing the lira, as well as the lack of competition from domestic TV. With Sky having poached the rights to England's top flight, Channel 4 was up against ITV's piecemeal coverage of the old Second Division. Serie A offered San Siro glamour; ITV had Grimsby."
