Come on Town!

Grimsby v Brentford Preview

THE fixture congestion rattles on like a train destined for Dante's 7th circle of hell or at least Bill Bailey's evil roundabout song. The Mariners face league leaders Brentford in a hope they can record their fifth victory of the season and extend the gap from the relegation zone.

Town are at an all time low until we most probably lose to Brentford disillusionment, a strong call to arms, a battle cry of exasperation or even a non committal shrug. Whatever way you are all dealing with the problem we have found ourselves in one of those should not be elitism. This club is not too big to go down, we are a smaller club then Oxford in comparison to facilities, and attendance, whatever happens a result of some sort is needed tonight and against league leaders Brentford who hammered us 4-0 in our first away day of the season.

Their History

Started as a winter pursuit for those at the rowing club Brentford F.C. were founded on the 9th October 1889, their original colours were salmon claret and light blue which I believe is what we have in our bathroom. Their nickname is derived from a common misunderstanding the shouts of "Come on B's!" were misinterpreted as "Come on Bees" so you see that all makes sense now doesn't it children.

Last Season Was

Presumably disappointing most clubs ourselves included when relegated to League Two envisaged a Lazarus reinvention sweeping all aside as we were promoted with ease. Nonetheless it don't happen does it? Brentford finished midtable around the likes of Lincoln, truly auspicious company and us. 1 win in 6 towards the end of the season did nothing for their glimpse of a play-off place either.

This Season Is

Suppose they're doing ok, top of the league isn't all what its cracked up to be, worried you're going to be knocked off the top any minute, that dreaded bad run of form just around the corner. Well I don't know we experienced it once for less then 24 hours but top of the league stuff isn't for the likes of us, it's just boring.

Their Biggest Hero Is

Beating Dean Holdsworth to top spot is Bee lover Terry Evans the now London Wasps physio has the hearts and admiration of every Bees fan out there. Captain for the majority of his stay in over 250 league appearances before been snapped up by Martin O'Neil for £40,000 in 93 for his then team Wycombe. The centre back was a Lever among men and a truly brilliant defender and boy can he look after those London Wasp boys pretty he can't show them a bit about winning.

they're Most Proud Of

They've bumbled (geddit?) along the lower leagues for the life and one a London War trophy at Wembley during the Second World War. Among a few promotions between leagues a Freight Rover Trophy final appearance and a quarterfinal appearance in the FA Cup. Brentford haven't too much sleeping giant syndrome.

The Future Is

Bright a new pretty stadium most probably no longer advertising to landing planes on the roof the new state of the art facility will give them something we need a pretty ground but no more corner pubs then again with the economy like it is it may take sometime.

The Most Famous Player To Have Worn The Shirt

Right there is a good list here!

Les Ferdinand, Chris Kamara, Harry Redknapp, Steve Sidwell, Marcus Bent, Paul Merson, Jimmy Hill, Tommy Lawton and Hermann Hreiðarsson make a bloody impressive list for the rest of us who says location is the only thing you need for a home it works for footie clubs too.

Their Key Player Is

Charlie MacDonald Brentford’s leading scorer has scored as many as Proudlock, Bennett, Jarman, Forbes and Elliot combined. The Southwark born striker has spent most of his time in the non-league but has proved a steal for the Bee's title challenge.

Prediction

Grimsby Town 2-2 Brentford
