Beat the Bookies: Week 18

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 16/12/2009

ACCRINGTON finally broke Beat the Bookies's losing streak, and in some style. A 7/1 winner paid out £70 in last week's tip. Sadly Darlo did not oblige with a double, instead they were thrashed again!

Grimsby v Morecambe. Morecambe's record in the last five games is quite simply perfect: 5 wins, scored 15, conceded 0. With Town's recent scoring record Morecambe would seem to be guaranteed a point just by turning up with their defence. The bookies are offering Evens for a Morecambe win, but with Grimsby forced to make a defensive change with Olly Lancashire out, the odds would seem to be a little better than that. Selection: Morecambe

Bury v Macclesfield. Both of these clubs are inconsistent at the moment, and all three results would seem possible. The fact that it's a local derby though means Bury's good home record might be tested more than a more distant club might manage. 9/2 for an away win looks a shade generous and it might well be worth backing the Silkmen who had a good win last week. Selection: Macclesfield

Bournemouth v Notts County. The bookies have finally cottoned on to the fact that Notts County's bubble could well have burst. Bournemouth are favourites to win this game, a fixture which County won just a few weeks ago in the cup. The Cherries though are definitely not the side they were earlier in the season and you have to wonder if the bookies have actually strayed too far in the opposite direction. You can pick up Notts County for 9/4. Selection: Notts County

Accrington v Barnet. Accrington are on a tremendous run at the moment whereas Barnet are sinking rapidly down the league. There really does look only one result on Friday night and you can still get Evens with Betfred for a home win. Selection: Accrington This season we will again be trying out three different betting strategies:

  • Fixed Odds
  • Spread Betting on the Mini Performance Index with IG Index (25 points for a win, 10 for a draw, 10 for a goal)
  • The Monkey (betting on Town to win each game 3-1, i.e. the complete absence of any betting strategy). The Monkey lost every bet last year.

Recommended Fixed Odds Bets

  • 1. Morecambe to beat Grimsby. . (Evens, Bet365)
  • 2. Accrington to beat Barmet. . (Evens, Betfred)

Recommended Spread Bet

  • No bet this week

The Monkey's Bet

  • Grimsby to win 3-1, 33/1 Bet365
