Woods Gets a Vote of Confidence

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/01/2010

NEIL Woods has been given a vote of confidence by Grimsby chairman John Fenty, despite the Grimsby manager's failure to win a game in the 18 matches the former Youth Team Coach has been in charge.

Fenty told the Grimsby Telegraph: "The Board is in full support of Neil and his attempts to strengthen the squad he inherited. And I'm confident it will have a positive effect.

"We are only halfway through the season and there's a long way to go yet."

Woods has made several attempts to buy new players during January, but is yet to secure a permanent signing. Fenty is hopeful that Town can secure some new players before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

The Town chairman said: "Neil is working really hard to bring players in but it's not an easy task in the position we are in like the manager has already stated. We are optimistic that we can get a couple more additions in."

Fenty is not expecting many players to leave as most of them are under contract and unwilling to just depart. However if another club was willing to take on any of Town's unwanted players they would be free to leave.

"There are players who may move out but it's more likely they will go to new clubs rather than just have their contracts scrapped if they do leave, possibly even on loan," said Fenty.

Grim Rob Says: Fenty's dilemma is whether to stick with Neil Woods or twist in the hope that someone else could do better. Frankly we need snookers at the moment whichever way we proceed, but Woods cannot be allowed to continue the winless run for more than a few more games.
