Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Beat the Bookies: Week 30

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/03/2010

Dagenham v MACCLESFIELD

Macclesfield haven't lost since the big referee in the sky blew the full time whistle for Big Keith, whereas in his final days they were doing rather badly. Why that might be the case is open to debate but, setting aside the whys and hows, us mere mortals might as well take advantage from it while we have the chance. Especially when the Macc Lads are taking on a Dagenham side who have rather lost their way in recent weeks, barring of course a routine demolition of the Mariners at Victoria Road not long ago.

DARLINGTON v Barnet

It looked like Darlington had started to pick up a few weeks ago, but their form has nosedived to a new low in the last month or so. It's time however for once last Back Darlington tip. Barnet's season is virtually over and surely the last thing they'll fancy is a long trip in the wind and the rain (yes we've even checked the weather forecasts, so thoroughly are our tips researched) to play the worst side in Britain in a three quarters empty monolith of a ground. It's got to be a home win, hasn't it?

GRIMSBY v Bournemouth

Let's look on the positive side. Town won their last home game, most of the people in the ground therefore will last have set their eyes upon a winning team being clapped off the pitch. What's more the very players who helped cement that first win in living memory are returning from injury for this very game and what's hopefully going to a joyous reunion of a winning combination of players (Olly Lancashire being one very notable exception of course).

NORTHAMPTON v Morecambe

Northampton are flying! Seven wins out of eight and a home game against Morecambe who couldn't even beat us next. Home banker, put a '1' on your coupon straight away, do not pass Ladbrokes without parting with some of your hard-earned tips.

This week rather than putting a tenner on two games we're going to put a fiver on all four.

This Week's Tips

  • MACCLESFIELD to beat Dagenham (15/4)
  • DARLINGTON to beat Barnet (19/10)
  • GRIMSBY to beat Bournemouth (21/10)
  • NORTHAMPTON to beat Morecambe (4/5)

The Monkey's Bet

  • Grimsby to win 3-1 (28/1)
