Jingle Bells!

GRIMSBY picked up their first away win since last summer when they amazingly came from 2-0 down at half time to win 3-2 at Accrington Stanley. It was no more than Town deserved after missing a hatful of chances when the score was 0-0, and then having the better of the second period.

The result still leaves Town with a mountain to climb to avoid the drop out of the Football League. However at least there is still a modicum of hope whereas anything but three points would have meant there was none, with Cheltenham winning and Torquay picking up a point away from home.

Peter Sweeney was dropped by Neil Woods after the defeat by Northampton, with Hudson taking his place in midfield. Captain Peacock was also rested with striker Tommy Wright getting the nod from the Town boss.

Town got off to a storming start, and Accrington had their 'keeper to thank when he made a point blank save to deny Sinclair from close range at his near post.

Midway through the first half Devitt had a shot cleared off the line, and a few minutes later Sinclair's header went just over with the 'keeper stranded.

When Lancashire's header was cleared off the line in the 38th minute it looked only a matter of time before Grimsby took the lead. But Accrington found the net with their first serious attempt on goal. Stanley broke and the ball found its way to Kee whose header broke the deadlock.

The match looked over when Michael Symes added a second in the final minute of the first half with Town's defence static.

Anyone who lingered for a pie or a toilet visit would have missed a dramatic transformation in the game. On 55 Coulson's cross found Hudson's head to give the Mariners hope.

Then within a couple of minutes Coulson fired a free kick in to level the game. Almost immediately Devitt then picked up a loose ball after good work by Akpro then finished superbly to give Town the lead.

With Town in front the initiative swung to Accrington and Town's defence came under the cosh for long periods in the second half. This time however there were to be no mistakes and Grimsby held on for a morale-boosting win.

Easter is remembered as a time of miracles. Although it's still going to need a minor miracle to stay up, a win at Hereford next Saturday would make the task that little bit easier.
