Trust Accept Shares

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 04/10/2011

GRIMSBY Town Supporters Trust has taken up the offer of half a million shares from former vice chairman Mike Parker, which was given as a gift to the organisation. However the trust will not be taking up a place on the board

Town are still looking for a Chairman following the resignation of long-time board member John Fenty last month.

A statement from the Trust stated: "The board of Grimsby Town Supporters' Trust, having consulted with Supporters Direct and the board of Grimsby Town Football Club, have chosen to accept Mike Parker's gift of 500,000 shares in Grimsby Town Football Club plc.

"The Trust board would like to thank Mike for this generous offer, which comes at no cost to GTST and with no conditions whatsoever attached.

"We would like to reassure the club's board of directors, supporters and our members that irrespective of any recent conflict within the club, GTSTs primary concern is the long-term viability of Grimsby Town Football Club.

"We look forward to a long and productive working relationship with the football club, but would also echo the sentiments of the club's chief executive Ian Fleming in appealing for investment from anyone with the resources to help take the club forward.

"This is, without doubt, a landmark moment in the history of the Grimsby Town Supporters Trust since its formation in 2003, and an undoubted boost to the long-term aims of the Trust.

"Whilst GTST will not be seeking a place on the board of the football club in the immediate future, the acquisition of these shares provides a golden opportunity for GTFC supporters to have a more meaningful influence on the future of Grimsby Town Football Club.

"We would welcome supporter involvement in the Grimsby Town Supporters Trust at any level - from submitting ideas, becoming a member right through to full board involvement.

"There has never been a better time for Grimsby Town supporters to work together for a common goal, and that is the future success of Grimsby Town FC."

Grim Rob Says: In general it's good news to get more input into the running of the club, it might well have helped during some of the difficult decisions which Town had to make during the last few years. Town's most immediate problem is money, however. The club have enough money to survive until the end of the year, after which their income falls well short of the amount necessary to meet their obligations. Only someone with the wealth of John Fenty or Mike Parker can provide that level of support.
