Beat the Bookies (Summer): Week 2

By: Rob Sedgwick

SALFORD made sure our first week of summer betting was profitable. In a weekend of upsets they picked up a terrific win over Salford v Catalans Dragons, who just don't travel. If David Ferrer overcomes Nadal on Friday, we're in for a big payday,

Rugby League

  • London v Widnes - away win (4.8, Unibet). London have had a dismal start to the season, a big surprise given the money they have spent. Widnes have been appalling on the road, but their terrific win last week against Huddersfield at home must give them confidence, London by contrast had another terrible defeat, London have also been given a 12.5 handicap, which seems like printing money, even against Widnes.
  • Warrington v Leeds (+11.5 handicap) - away win (2.0, Bet365). Leeds have lost 3 games on the trot, but if ever a team in the Super League can't be written off it's the Rhinos. They've been given a generous Asian Handicap of 11.5. They may not beat Warrington but don't be surprised if it's a lot closer than that. If you are really brave go for a Leeds away win - you can get 11/2 with Bet365, an industry best price.

    Euro 2012

  • Winner - Italy (17.0, Bet Victor). Bet Victor give you your money back in Spain win the tournament. So it makes sense to back someone who Spain are going to play, such as Italy or Ireland. Bet Victor have a competitive price on Italy, who are one of the strongest sides and have as good a chance as anyone.

  • Poland v Greece - Greece win by 1 goal (6.0, Unibet). The conventional wisdom on the opening two games is that they'll be low scoring. Greece don't score many goals, and could well nick this. It's tempting to go for 1-0 Greece but in the absence of much to go on, a 1 goal away win is perhaps more conservative and good value at 5-1.
