Beat the Bookies (Summer): Week 9

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 27/07/2012

GOOD wins in the cricket (South Africa) and Rugby (Hull FC) have put Beat the Bookies (Summer) back in profit for the year. With the Olympics now underway there's no shortage of things to bet on.

Rugby League

  • Wigan v Castleford - away win (21, Castleford, £5 bet). Cas have pulled off some great wins this season, beating Leeds and Huddersfield recently. Wigan recently were hammered by Leeds and Wakefield. This looks unlikely, but there seems to be a big upset most weekends in Super League.

    Olympics

  • Great Britain vs United Arab Emirates - away win or draw (3.45, Unibet). Team GB seemed distinctly average in their first game. UAE are the outsiders of the group but are supposed to be quite a skilful side who could cause problems for our boys.
  • Mens Road Race - lay Mark Cavendish (2.2, Betfair). I don't pretend to know anything at all about cycling, but the British cyclists seem likely to me to be overbacked. Does Cavendish deserve to be such short odds when there is such a large field and accidents seem commonplace?

    Cricket

  • England v South Africa - South Africa (3.0, Bet 365). South Africa were by far the better side in the first test, only the weather can stop them winning again on that showing!
