Stockdale Leaves Grimsby

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 29/08/2012

ROBBIE Stockdale is leaving his position as Grimsby Town Youth Team Coach to join Premier League outfit Sunderland where he will have the position of Youth/Reserve Team Coach.

Former Town player Stockdale has held the post since long-standing Youth Team coach Neil Woods was promoted to first boss in 2009.

As way of compensation Sunderland will play a pre-season friendly with a first team XI at Blundell Park next season, which will give a chance for Town supporters to see top flight players at Blundell POark.

Last year Grimsby Town Youth Team finished bottom of the league with just 4 wins in 24 games.

The club in a statement thanked Stockdale and said they "will be looking to appoint a suitable replacement for Robbie in due course."

Two possible contenders for the job are Woods, now in a similar role at Walsall, but still living in Grimsby, and former Town boss Alan Buckley who is already involved with the Youth Team setup.

The Fishy would like to thank Robbie for his efforts both as a player and as a coach at Blundell Park.
