Beat the Bookies: Week 13

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/11/2012

ANOTHER two big winners lifted the profits for the season so far to nearly £250 - not bad with only a third of the season gone! Palace's win at Leicester and Barnet's win at Chesterfield were both huge odds - we tipped the pair, and they both came in.

Town are on their travels again after a couple of disappointing results at Blundell Park. The Mariners didn't do that much wrong against Macclesfield though, and they were very unlucky to lose in a second half they totally dominated. The bookies don't know that though, so Grimsby's price (around 11/8) to win at Tamworth is probably a bit more generous than it would have been if Town had got the draw or win their deserved last weekend.

The FA Cup this weekend is a punter's paradise if you like tipping big upsets as we tend to. There's nearly always some big shocks at very long prices. If you're on board - as we've been in the past (who can forget the weekend we tipped FC United to beat Rochdale and Dover to beat Gillingham, and they both did) then it can be a big pay day.

Premier League

  • Liverpool v Newcastle - away win (6.9, Pinnacle). Liverpool lost in midweek in the League Cup to Swansea, whereas the Geordies did not play during the week. Over the last couple of years the Magpies have been consistently better than Liverpool, and they are still above them in the league. The odds do not reflect the reality of what is happening week in week out.

    Championship

  • Sheff Wed v Peterborough (4.6, Marathon). Sheff Wed had a good result last week but generally have been dreadful for weeks before that. Posh have won 4 out of the last 6!.

    FA Cup

  • Swindon v Macclesfield - away win (11.0, Betfair). Macclesfield were pretty impressive against Grimsby last weekend, especially in the first half. They've had 3 good results against Gateshead, Newport and Grimsby. Swindon had an energy-sapping cup game in midweek against Villa whilst Macc put their feet up.

  • Aldershot v Hendon - away win (10.0, WBX). Aldershot have been terrible at home all season and the fans have lost faith in the manager. They had a good unexpected result away last week but in Hendon they face exactly the sort of tie a nervous home crowd don't want!

  • Cambridge C v MK Dons - home win (11.0, Marathon). MK Dons had a good result at Scunny last week (but then most teams do). Before that though they've been pretty mediocre in recent weeks. City have been chosen by ESPN as the Friday night televised game, which if anything is going to motivate the underdog even more.
