Hereford Frustrate Town

GRIMSBY experienced a frustrating afternoon at the hands of Hereford on Saturday afternoon. Town looked to have got off to a perfect start when Nathan Pond headed in a free kick on the second minute. However a mistake before the break allowed Hereford to claw their way back into the game.

In the second half the visitors frustrated Town and chances were few and far between for either team.

Aswad Thomas served the first of a three game suspension, so Bradley Wood started at left-back. New signing Richard Brodie partnered Andy Cook up front, with Greg Pearson dropping to the bench. Also on that bench was Hull City winger Jamie Devitt, who the managers decided not to start in his first game back on loan.

The first chance of the game fell to Grimsby after two minutes and Pond, playing in his final game of his loan spell from Fleetwood, rose at the far post to head in Colbeck's free kick.

McKeown had to make two good saves to keep Town in the game, but Miller should have found the target when he latched on to a Pond knock-down from a free kick, but blasted it over from close range.

Just before half time Bradley Wood gave the ball away and Watkins was allowed to run to the byeline and cross the ball to Bowman who finished from close range.

The second half was largely a stalemate and Town's best efforts came from long range shots by Brodie.

The point was enough to see Grimsby return to the top of the table, but they'll need to win at Gateshead of Tuesday night (the first of three consecutive away games) to be certain of staying top, as Wrexham visit Alfreton that evening.
