Town Do Enough

GRIMSBY coasted to a three goal victory in the FA Trophy semi-final second leg against Dartford, buoyed by their 3-0 win in the first game. Although Dartford had the bulk of possession and chances they never looked like scoring the three goals required and Town held on for a 0-0 draw.

Grimsby, who have reached Wembley with a 13-1 aggregate scoreline in the competition, will face Wrexham in the final at Wembley on Sunday 24th March (3pm). It will be the second England v Wales final at Wembley, on the back of today's game between Swansea and Bradford in the Capital One Cup.

Town rested Aswad Thomas, Marcus Marshall and Andy Cook for the match in Kent, with Bradley Wood, Jamie Devitt and Richard Brodie all coming back into the side and the trio they replaced on the bench.

Dartford, as you'd expect took the initiative and won a succession of corners in the first half. Town's defence was resolute however and McKeown had a couple of routine saves to make. Grimsby's best chance fell to John Lewis whose header went wide. v With the tie virtually over at half time when the score stood at 0-0 Town just has to stay solid in the second half, and they did with a few wobbles. Dartford's best chance was a mass goal mouth scramble when several players had attempts on goal, but it eventually ended with a goal kick when a shot went wide.

Town did enough but did not play especially well once again. It has been quite a while now since Grimsby have been at their best. The constant changing of personnel; probably doesn't help, although it's understandable why it is taking place and hopefully the rotation policy will reap its dividends in the end.

Celebrations at the end were a little muted when news filtered through that Grimsby's main promotion rivals had all won and the Mariners were now in fourth place in the league.

Tickets for Wembley go on sale on Monday.
