Grimsby v Cambridge Team News

GRIMSBY face Cambridge at home in a game they have to win to have any chance of keeping pace with the teams above them in the league. The Mariners did not get their just desserts in the two games this week so will be desperate to make their amends in front of their own supporters.

However Grimsby's once settled squad is anything but at the moment with several players carrying knocks. Midfielders Craig Disley (hamstring) and Derek Niven (groin) are both doubtful and will face late fitness tests before a decision is made. Both players have been central to the Mariners' success this season and Town fans will have their fingers crossed that they both make it. Andi Thanoj and Tom Naylor however are available should they not, and Frankie Artus will probably step up to the bench again if one or both of the pair drop out.

Town have several other players not 100% fit but still available to play with knocks. Cook (ankle), Hannah (foot) and Miller (knee) are all feeling the effects of previous games, while Liam Hearn is unlikely to be involved before a reserve team outing next week.

Cambridge are probably the first team that Grimsby have faced who have absolutely nothing to play for in terms of league positions. The U's are on 49 points, far from either the bottom and the top and are virtually assured of playing in this division next season. That could work either way for them with the pressure being off Cambridge to pick up points, and they have the advantage of not having played in midweek. Their last result was a narrow late win over Woking when Tom Shaw scored an injury time winner, although United did have most of the chances and possession in the previous 89 minutes.

Cambridge have doubts over top scorer Tom Elliott and defender Josh Coulson who have both been suffering from a virus, and Tom Shaw is doubtful with a back problem.

Curtis Haynes-Brown (virus) has recovered and could return at left-back.

Grimsby have not lost to Cambridge since 1993. Town have won 4 and drawn 3 of the 7 matches against United which have taken place this century.
