Grimsby v Northampton Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 06/12/2013

THE Grimsby team which takes the field against Northampton tomorrow is unlikely to resemble the sides that played in the last two games against Coalville. It is more likely to revert to the one that picked up three points against Barnet in the last league game.

Players who had little or no involvement in the FA Trophy games such Ross Hannah, Lenell John-Lewis, Scott Neilson, Scott Kerr, Craig Disley, Shaun Pearson, Clayton McDonald and Aswad Thomas are all likely to come straight back into the side for a match which offers the ticket to a potentially lucrative third round tie.

The one notable absentee from the squad however will be Liam Hearn who is unlikely to play for Grimsby again under his current contract, which ends at the conclusion of the current season. Hearn sustained a cruciate ligament injury in the closing stages of the Barnet victory which will take several months to recover from. Midweek hat trick Dayle Southwell is likely to start on the bench where Hearn would probably have sat.

For the Cobblers Chris Hackett (suspension) and striker Roy O'Donovan (hernia) are available for selection after missing recent games. However loan players and first team regulars Izale McLeod (MK Dons) and Stuart Dallas (Brentford), z both cannot play in the FA Cup.

Grimsby knocked out a League Two team in the previous round, when neighbours Scunthorpe were beaten in a replay in Round 1.
