GRIMSBY came from behind for the third game in succession. This time however the Mariners had to do so with ten men after Josh Gowling was sent off for an off-the-ball incident and Lincoln scored from the ensuing penalty.
The Mariners had started the stronger of the two sides and had had the better of chances before the Gowling incident. In the second half ten men Grimsby once again looked dangerous and drew level when Bogle scored a spectacular individual goal. Both teams had chances to win it, but Town finished stronger and can be satisfied with a deserved draw, although it leaves them further behind in the promotion race.
Paul Hurst brought back East at right back, which meant Toto Nsiala dropped to the bench. In midfield Clay was still left out in place of new loan signing Matt Robinson, but Padraig Amond came into the side up front and Mackreth dropped to the bench.
Town started the game strongly and had great opportunities to take the lead with Amond and Bogle both having chances to score, and Arnold volleying just over. Lincoln rarely threatened Town until the penalty incident which came from a free kick into the box. The ball was played out towards the corner flag but Gowling was adjudged to have struck his opponent after the ball had gone. Rhead sent McKeown the wrong way when the spot kick was eventually taken.
Lincoln could have gone two up when the unmarked Brown headed wide from a set piece, but eventually Town settled into their new 4-3-2 formation, with Nsiala replacing Robinson. By the time the second half was underway they were once again starting to threaten Lincoln's goal. The equaliser came when Bogle controlled the ball on his chest, swivelled and half-volleyed into the net in front of the jubilant Grimsby supporters.
Town finished the stronger and left the game claiming a moral victory. There is little time to dwell on the match however as Grimsby return to Blundell Park to face Macclesfield on Bank Holiday Monday. Grimsby have now gone three games without a win and desperately need three points to lift them up the table.
