GRIMSBY consolidated their claim for a play-off berth with a narrow win over second-placed Forest Green at the New Lawn last night. In a game of few chances Town scored when captain Craig Disley steered in Monkhouse's cross in the second half.

New signing Patrick Hoban partnered countryman Padraig Amond up front and forced a save from Steve Arnold in one of the few moments of goalmouth action in a very tight first half.

Town's defence kept the shackled on Parkin and the home side barely had a sniff of goal all night, although having most of the possession.

Town defended as a unit and scored the games only goal midway through the second half when Monkhouse curled in a delightful flighted cross which Disley rose to power past Arnold.

The Mariners continued to defend in strength and completed a valuable three points which at least keeps them in with an outside chance of taking advantage of a slip-up from the teams above them.

Town now face Southport at home on Tuesday before he "distraction" of an FA Trophy semi-final clash at Bognor next weekend.
