The Return of Slade
By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 12/04/2017
RUSSELL Slade and Paul Wilkinson have been confirmed as the new Grimsby Town management duo. Both have previously managed the club before, Slade left as manager in 2006 and Wilkinson had been Reserve Team Coach a few years before. Wilkinson was also a Town striker in the 1980s.
The pair will be in charge for the final 5 games, although the length of their contracts is undisclosed. Town have a very slim chance of promotion but the main challenge will be to build a squad to mount a challenge in League 2 next season.
The pair offer experience in contrast to former boss Marcus Bignot who was untested at this level, and although he guided the Mariners to a secure spot in the table, the board did not have the confidence in to retain.
