Town Fall at Luton

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/12/2017

GRIMSBY were well beaten by Champions-elect Luton, who ended Town's unbeaten run but the Mariners were not disgraced. A goal in each half saw the Hatters take all three points, but Town fans will point to a first half high tackle on Dembele when Andrew Shinnie was lucky to get away with a yellow card.

Town were unchanged and absorbed a lot of pressure in the first half until just before half time when Berry was given time to curl a superb effort in from outside the box. Town were limited to half chances and Summerfield fired one just wide in the first half, then Matt hit the outside of the post from a narrow angle early in the second half.

Luton wrapped things up from a free kick when Sheehan placed the ball on the head of Collins, who powered the ball in to double the home side's lead.

It was a fairly straightforward win for the Hatters but Town will console themselves that they remain just four points off the play-offs having just played the top two sides away. The Mariners have another one of the sides tipped for promotion as their next opponents when they take on Mansfield at Blundell Park on Boxing Day.
