Town Approach Safety Mark

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 17/02/2019

GRIMSBY continued their winning streak with a narrow 1-0 win over Cheltenham. Wes Thomas scored the game's only goal in a first-half penalty. Grimsby had more of the few chances the two sides managed to create, and the Mariners were rarely troubled by Cheltenham.

The three points lift Town just a few points away from guaranteed safety and they are now undoubtedly on the fringes of the pack pushing for one of the last two play-off places.

The Mariners face Swindon next week who are tied on 46 points with Grimsby. It was a match which Town unexpectedly won last year and in doing so gave their fight against relegation a massive boost. This year both teams need three points to bring themselves closer to the promotion picture.
