Town Looking to Bounce Back

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 09/12/2020

GRIMSBY'S next six games are against the sides currently 19th, 24th, 18th, 23rd, 13th and 16th. The Mariners currently occupy 20th position but have lost 4 out of the last 5 games.

In their defence, they can say that the last 4 games defeats were against the teams in 1st, 6th, 5th and 10th place. Plus fans will point to the injuries which have plagued Grimsby in recent weeks.

Town have been very poor in most of the last few games but they have been pitted against the best teams in the league. With 6 games against the teams around them in the table, it gives Grimsby the opportunity to end a difficult year on a high.

Although it hasn't got to the stage yet where the games are relegation six-pointers, certainly defeat in most of them would plunge Grimsby into the bottom two, which is only 2 points and 3 places behind Town's current position.

After their appalling start to the campaign, unfortunately, success at this stage can already set as low as merely avoiding finishing in the bottom two. It's fair to say that if Grimsby were to be relegated it would probably be an easy worse fate than last time when Town spent 6 years out of the league between 2010 and 2016. Since then the Mariners have not been competitive in League Two and have finished 14th, 18th, 17th and 15th in the 4 seasons since.
