GRIMSBY have two weeks to make their first transfer window signings. So far free agent Sam Habergem is the only player to have joined since Paul Hurst was appointed and several players have gone the other way, including most recently James Tilley who has now joined Crawley.

Hurst had tried to sign several players this week but was turned down by some and, with two weeks to go, other players are still considering their options.

Town, with Habergem at left-back, managed a 0-0 draw with Southend on Saturday at Blundell Park, which kept them second bottom. The Mariners created very little in the game, and James McKeown made good saves at the end of both halves, so a point was a good result under the circumstances. Although Southend are bottom their recent form has placed them in the top few in form tables.

Paul Hurst though ideally needs multiple players to improve the standard across the park, with a goal scorer being top of his list. On that front, striker James Hanson managed nearly half an hour as a second-half substitute against Southend and has a week to work on his fitness before the next game. Hanson has missed most of the season and is the one genuine centre forward in the squad.

The Mariners have just two loan players left on their books (Preston and Bennett), so Hurst has an opportunity there to bring more in from other clubs.

Grimsby's next three games are against Scunthorpe, Barrow and Stevenage, all of whom are relegation rivals. The transfer window closes two days after the Stevenage game on 1st February, although free agents (like Habergham and Morais) can still be signed outside the designated windows.
