Town Lose in Wales

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 16/09/2023 (Last updated: 17/09/2023)

GRIMSBY were well beaten by Wrexham today in a 3-0 reverse at the Stok Racecourse. Former Mariner Ollie Palmer opened the scoring for the Red Dragons, and soon afterwards a defensive mistake allowed Boyle to add a second. The home side wrapped up in the points in the second half through Lee.

Luke Waterfall and Rekeil Pyke replaced injured pair Eisa and Rose, which meant scoring goals looked like a problem from the off.

Wrexham took the lead in the second phase after a corner when the ball was played into the box for the unmarked Palmer to open the scoring. Soon after Holohan was dispossed and McClean crossed for Boyle to head a second goal.

Town had no more than half chances, with only Gnahoua forcing a routine save from the 'keeper

Grimsby, albeit with some promising approach play at times, created nothing of note in the second half and the game looked lost, which was confirmed with the final goal - a tap-in for Lee from a Dalby cross.

Town have had a tough start to the campaign, and injuries robbed them of their top scorers. The Mariners have a chance to regain some ground when they face Crawley at home next week.
