Town Get Their Man

DAVID Artell has been appointed as Grimsby's new manager, albeit with the job title of Head Coach, in a 2.5-year deal. Shaun Pearson has also been promoted to Artell's Assistant Head Coach from his Interim Co-Head coach position.

Artell has been picked after a thorough month long quest for a new manager, following the sacking of Paul Hurst in late October. During that time the team have remained unbeaten and progressed to Round 2 of the FA Cup.

The two appointments bridge the old regime to the new one, albeit with the word "manager" dropped from their job titles, suggesting a more narrow role for the pair in a wider team. How that will work will play out in the following days.

Artell, 42, a former player with over 500 matches and seven caps for Gibraltar, transitioned into management with Crewe Alexandra in January 2017. His leadership, including guiding Crewe to League Two safety and promotion, earned him accolades like the League Two Manager of the Month and Year.

Artel is known for his youth development focus, highlighted by fielding an all-Academy team in May 2018. Recently appointed as Head Coach at the Mariners, Artell aims to implement his style of attractive, possession-based football, while nurturing young talent. His academic background impressed the board, securing his position until 2026.

The new team's first ganme will be away at MK Dons on Tuesday night.
