Campbell on Loan

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 15/09/2000

Grimsby Town have announced today the signing of a new loan player. Former Scotland under-21 player, Stuart Campbell, a 22 year old midfielder will be joining Grimsby from Leicester City on a month's loan.

Cambbell could be a very good replacement for Town as both Stacy Coldicott and Alan Pouton are injured. He is likely to be part of Town's team for Saturday. Stuart CAMPBELL Midfielder Stats Born: Corby, 9 December 1977 Weight: 11.2 st Height: 5' 10" International Honours: Scotland U21. Profile Right sided midfielder. Former YTS trainee who made his debut in 1997-97. Last season he again made the majority of his appearances from the substitutes bench, where he sat to earn a medal at Wembley. Campbell has not quite managed to secure a regular first team berth as yet but continues to gain valuable experience with both club and with the Scottish Under 21 team. His clear target for this campaign was to force his way into the starting line up more frequently in order to begin to fulfil the obvious promise that is present in his game and, to that end, was most impressive in the pre-season build up. Unfortunately, injury problems have continued to blight his progress. Campbell spent a month on loan with Birmingham City in April 2000, but only managed 30 minutes of first team football for the Midlands outfit.
