New Stadium Plan

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 12/10/2000

Andy Gutherson Deputy planning director of the NELC has announced a meeting to consult all interested parties on the new master plan for the new stadium. The new plan has removed the building part of the development out of the recently extended consultation zone.

Although this meeting is to consult interested parties about the new location of the building structures, the NELC still have to agree to change the draft local plan at a special meeting of the full council. Although there is some optimistic feeling that the council will finally agree to the development, there can be no certainty of this until the council meet to decide. The master plan will then be submitted to the planning committee for approval if the council agrees to change the draft local plan. If the council does agree, the Great Coates NIMBY's will have the right to appeal and the matter could then go to a public enquiry thereby delaying the commencement of the stadium development. There is still a long way to go and it appears that a new stadium would not be ready until 2002 at the earliest.
