NELC Stadium Report
From the GET

Five stadium sites fail criteria-claim

An unofficial Grimsby Town website has claimed five locations considered for a new stadium have failed to meet North East Lincolnshire Council criteria.

The independent Grimsby Town site, Electronic Fishcake.com, claims that a report that was commissioned by NELC from Leeds-based property consultants Graham Eve has deemed the sites near to Morrisons, Laceby, Cheapside, near Waltham Golf club, Peakes Parkway, Grimsby Docks and Stallingborough, unsuitable.

But NELC deputy chief executive Ian Bolton said it was doubtful the website was based on the final document as it was not expected for another week.

Elton John (from the Daily Star)

Elton John nut Kevin Lawrence moved his wife and six kids 200 miles to Grimsby because he loved his idol's song about it.

But the local council promptly shipped them all straight back to Northampton.

Kevin, 39, his wife Sandra, 38, and William, 13, Jennifer, seven, Kevin six, Simon, four, Victoria, two, and six-month-old Sandra, spent the night at Grimsby railway station before being sent back on the first train home.

The fed-up music buff said: "As Rocket Man Elton would say, I guess that why they call it the blues.

"I'm really upset. It's always been my dream to live in Grimsby - and now that's been shattered."

A North East Lincs Council spokesman said the family were not an emergency case.

Kevin added: "Ever since hearing Elton's song Grimsby 25 years ago it has been my ambition to live there. My wife told me she'd follow me to the ends of the earth. Grimsby seemed the ideal place."

Elton fan Alan Hall, 39, from Grimsby, said: "The song, on the 1974 No1 album Caribou, paints a glowing picture but Elton is lucky he wasn't done under the Trades Description Act.

"It mentions a beach, a pier, wild sands and the Skinners Arms . . . none of which Grimsby has!"
