Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Farewell Zhang!

By: Richard Lord
Date: 27/03/2001

CHINESE International captain Zhang Enhua is in doubt for the Norwich City clash this weekend. The match between the Canaries and the Mariners will be the central defender's last game for the club before returning to China after completing a 4-month loan deal at Blundell Park.

The popular 27-year old is rated 50/50 by manager Lennie Lawrence, who will be desperate to make the most of the player while he still remains in Grimsby. The Chinaman is struggling to shake off both a back problem and a hamstring strain.

"If it was tonight, the answer would be no," commented the Town boss. "I'm loathe to play him if he's less than 100 per cent for our sake and his."

During his time with the Mariners, Zhang has scored three priceless goals to aid Town's chances of surviving another season in Division One. Now he faces a race against time to be fit for what will be his final game in a black and white shirt, but Lawrence insisted he would move heaven and earth to bring the national captain back to the Town next season.

His departure will signal an imminent return for Peter Handyside who has only started one league game for Grimsby in the last 3 months.

Editors NoteThe Zhang Enhua Message Board is now closed and all messages have been collated and printed and will be passed to him before the weekend.
