Let's See Some Goals At Last!

MARINERS fan Neil Horsewood gives his views on the coming season with his hopes that Town will start grabbing the goals after missing so many chances last time around. Niel also looks at the possible combinations that might figure in the coming season.

Having watched Town for a number of years now, I cannot remember (besides Mendonca) when Town had a striker who could bang the goals in regularly. Of the last few seasons our top scorer has been a midfield player, maybe this had something to do with the type of football we played, with the forwards having their back to goal for the majority of the game, but I am looking with some optimism for this next season of the "Mighty Mariners" banging in a few more goals.

It was disheartening to see Town struggle against some teams, when they were there for the taking, Huddersfield away springs to mind. Admittedly, Bradley Allen when fit is more than capable of banging the ball away, but will he get a game with the arrival of Phil Jevons (pictured, top)? We are obviously capable of creating the chances, but there hardly ever seems to be someone there just to tap it in, or shoot from outside the box.

With Donovan gone, Campbell is the obvious choice for the right midfield berth, and possibly Alan Moore on the left (I don't know how his trial is going). With these two supplying the crosses for Jevons and probably Livvo, it does look good for the forthcoming season.

Handyside will be difficult to replace, though Lennie does seem to be able to get some decent players in (Campbell, Jevons, Enhua, Nielsen). The only problem could be if we get a few injuries it might stretch the squad a bit, but then again Lennie does seem quite adept when it comes to getting someone in on loan.

We might even get to see one of the number of youngsters breaking into the first team, Thompson looks a very good prospect.

Here's looking to the forthcoming season, with a bit more optimism than the last few seasons and also to seeing the net bulging a lot more for Town. Come on you Mariners!!!
