The Table

Three of the division's teams still await their first victory of the season. Steadily improving Stockport were unlucky not to win at Wolves, Rotherham came behind against Norwich, and Sheff Utd are in trouble after their home defeat to Coventry.

West Brom continue to surge up the table after a poor start to the season. Summer-signing Scott Dobie (left) bagged a couple in their win over Watford at Vicarage Road. The Millers halted Norwich's winning streak - and the Canaries conceded for the first time since the opening day of the season.

Burnley continue to impress after seeing off Walsall's challenge, and Wolves are now the only team who hold an unbeaten record. Coventry moved into 13th place after the 1-0 win at Bramall Lane, and Pompey sneak into second spot after their 4-2 win over Palace in which Prosinecki starred once more. Preston also managed to collect their first win of the season - with Millwall being their victims.

Division's Talent

Dutchman Dean Gorre (left) has started to settle in at Barnsley and was impressive in their 2-0 win over Crewe. The former Terrier was on the scoresheet for the first time for his new club and looks set to terrorise many defences this season.

Irishman Richard Dunne (right), bought from Everton last season by Man City, got his first goal at Maine Road in City's 3-0 demolition of Birmingham. The international looks a bargain buy and will surely keep the division's strikers out of a chance of scoring.

Finally, in what was another match-winning performance, Danny Coyne (left) kept a fifth clean sheet of the season. His save from Stern John's header at the weekend kept Forest at bay and prevented a defeat. Similarly his opposite number Ward made a sensational save to deny the Mariners all three points.

Goalscorers

Shaun Goater (left) set his standards early on and still maintains his great record with 9 goals in just 7 starts for Man City. Portsmouth front pairing of Burchill and Crouch were impressive once more in a 4-2 victory and both strikers were on the mark to lift their team into a lofty second position.

Despite Rotherham's early struggle, Mark Robins (right) has 6 goals to his credit already. Scott Dobie won the match at Watford for the Baggies as his brace got him out of the starting blocks for his new club. Finally Welsh international Nathan Blake scored on his debut for Wolves after his £1.5m move from Premiership team Blackburn.

Town's Next Opponents

On Tuesday night Grimsby travel down to Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace. Since beginning the season with two victories, the Eagles have lost their last three league games and the Mariners travel down to London in the knowledge that Palace are not in good form. However, one Palace player who is in good form is Dougie Freedman (left). He's already bagged 4 goals this season and scored on Saturday at Fratton Park. Palace currently lie in 15th position after having played just two games at home so far this campaign.

Path for Grimsby

After Tuesday's trip to Palace, Grimsby then face Stockport at Edgeley Park next Saturday. Stockport are without a win this season but have drawn their last two matches. Then it's back to Blundell Park for a midweek game against Gillingham. The following Saturday sees the squad head into Yorkshire to take on Jim Jeffries' Bradford at Valley Parade. It's then followed by a Friday night home match against Rotherham and then the big trip to Liverpool in the Worthington Cup third round.

Midweek

Birmingham - Burnley
Coventry - Man City (Wed)
Crewe - Wimbledon
Crystal Palace - Grimsby
Gillingham - Wolves
Millwall - Barnsley
Norwich - Watford
Stockport - Sheff Utd
Walsall - Portsmouth
West Brom - Preston
