Pair to Miss Stockport Game

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 20/09/2001

MIDFIELDER Alan Pouton and striker Phil Jevons are both rated highly doubtful for Saturday's clash with basement club Stockport following groin strains. Jevons has had a scan on his injury, and does not have a hernia problem as was feared, but is still expected to be absent for up to another week.

Top scorer Jevons limped off against Nottingham Forest last Saturday after suffering a groin strain just before half-time and missed the Palace game as a result. Likewise Alan Pouton had to be substituted with a similar injury at Selhurst Park during half-time, and also looks set to be out of action for around a week.

Grimsby boss Lennie Lawrence told Radio Humberside that he expects one of the pair to return from injury in time for next Tuesday's match against Gillingham, with the other being back in action the following Saturday in time for the top of the table clash at Bradford.

Meanwhile Tony Gallimore has recovered from the virus which caused him to miss the Palace game on Tuesday night. The former Carlisle United left back took part in training today, with Lennie Lawrence commenting "We will need his height and strength - and that's a fact."
