Grimsby Loan Prospect Injured In Training

By: Jostein Jensen
Date: 18/10/2001

ALEXANDER AAS, linked to a loan deal with Grimsby Town, limped off the training field yesterday, but the 23-year-old hopes that the knock will not stop an eventual loan deal with Grimsby.

"It crunched in my left little toe and it swelled at once," said Aas who didn't wanted to dramatise the situation too much before he could have an X-ray of the foot on Thursday morning.

"I spoke to the doctor last night and it can be a fracture in a bone in the little toe, but it can also only be a stretch in the capsule. The first will mean that I will be out three to four weeks; the second will take three to four days. But I don't care to think much on that now."

Aas's agent Gunnar Martin Kjenner talked with Grimsby boss Lennie Lawrence on Wednesday. The manager made it known that the 23 year old would be welcomed if a loan deal should be arranged. "It's tempting, but anyway will I think on it and take a talk with Knut Anders Fostervold before I take a decision," said Aas who knows that Fossi played for Grimsby last season.

"I will not be rich after a few months in Grimsby"

The speculation about Grimsby's interest for Alexander Aas and Bård Borgersen has been rumoured for a while, but Grimsby's problem is money. "I will not be rich after a few months in Grimsby. It's the challenge on the pitch that is more important for me, and I can of course hope that some new possibilities will come after some matches for Grimsby," said Aas who is valued at over £1-million and who is a Norwegian International.

Aas doesn't know much more about Grimsby other than that they lay in mid table in the first division and they beat Liverpool in the League Cup just recently. Perhaps a chance to meet his favourite team Manchester United in the next round will tempt Aas who will now talk to Fostervold. "I also know that Molde's Knut Anders Fostervold tried his luck there not a so long ago. And I know that Grimsby have an injured right back."

Leader of Sport in Odd, Jan Sæterbakken, said that the club still hadn't got any concrete offers for the right back. "Until that happen there is not much to comment on," said Sæterbakken who was also was in touch with agent Kjenner yesterday. " He called and asked if he could give Alexander's name as an alternative for Grimsby. That is okay by us, but it has not gone further than that," said Jan who is interested to loan out Aas.

"We don't think Alex will becomes a worse footballer by playing over there in November and December. But that of course depends on the price and the understanding between the clubs. But first we have to get an application from Grimsby and that has not yet arrived," said Sæterbakken who expressed doubts that the request would come at all.
