Speaking before the game, Reserve Team coach Paul Wilkinson expressed his delight with how well his young charges had done this season, in which the second string currently sit second in the table. "All the young players that we signed in the summer have done well, we're not disappointed with any of them. They need to keep going the right way and pushing for a place in the First Team. We'd love to get up to the Avon Insurance Premier Division, next season and progress as much as we can." said Wilkinson.

Walsall took an early lead, and then went two up in the second half before Town pulled one back through Hull-born Graham Hockless, who controlled the ball well and finished with power. Paul Raven gave away a penalty, before making amends by netting himself to make the score 3-2. Walsall wrapped the game up with a late goal to make it 4-2 to the Saddlers.
