My Black And White Hero: John McDermott

I started watching the Mighty Mariners 28 years ago at the age of 11 and there have been a few Black and White Heroes during that time, Bobby Cumming and Tony Ford being two of my favorites.

But I think that my all time hero of my time as a Town supporter has got to be a player that is still at the club today, the legend that is John McDermott. I have watched Macca progress from the junior and reserve sides to the first team and can honestly say that I can't remember him putting in one bad performance.
He has got to be one of, if not THE most consistent players ever to pull on the Black and White Stripes. The loyalty that Macca has shown to the Mariners is remarkable by standards in football today and I'm amazed that Town have managed to hang on to a player of his ability for so long. He is loved by the Town faithful not only for his obvious footballing skills but also for his attitude towards us, the fans.
I know that one player doesn't make a team but I find it no coincidence that we have struggled since he got injured, lets hope the Town fans get a Christmas bonus of Macca back in action soon
As we Town fans love to chant, and opposition wingers will testify, "You'll Never Beat Mcdermott !!"
