Manager Groves Suspended, Raven Steps In

By: Richard Lord
Date: 31/01/2002

Grimsby Town's injury-prone defender Paul Raven looks set to earn a starting place on Saturday when Grimsby Town entertain Bradford City at Blundell Park. The former Baggie's last appearance was against Walsall before Christmas.

It was in the game at the Bescot Stadium that the defender sustained his latest injury, but he has now sufficiently recovered from his pulled hamstring to step in for the suspended Paul Groves this weekend.

The 32-year old has been plagues with injuries so far this season, and had only just recovered from an operation to remove a piece of floating bone in his ankle when he sustained his latest injury against the Saddlers.

To date, that has been Raven's only starting appearance for the Mariners this season. Since then he has been forced to watch from the sidelines as young Ford has stepped into the breech, and only recently Raven has made the odd appearance from the bench.
