PAUL Groves, Grimsby's manager, paid credit to Sheffield Wednesday after the game which ended in a 0-0 draw. "It proved to be a difficult game, and Wednesday proved difficult to break-down, especially when they went down to ten men in the second half."

"To give them credit they worked hard, they were well organised, they dropped back to their 18 yard box, and you get to a point were you are just hitting a wall of bodies.

"Our players have given everything they have got to give today. You can in hindsight say we should have made changes earlier, but we were causing them one or two problems, at times the ball just wouldn't drop for us," he said.

"You know it's going to be tight and it's still in our hands.

Terry Yorath praised Marlon Broomes who was probably the best player on the pitch on the day and stopped many Grimsby attacks with his solid defensive work. "I thought that was his best game for us, and he's had some good ones. He was outstanding," said Yorath. The boys worked ever so hard and stuck to the game plan and I thought we were going to sneak it." "Grimsby are an honest side who have some good results lately, so this is a point gained."
