Groves Talks Continue

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 02/07/2002

Mariners Net reports today that the contract negotiations with Paul Groves and Graham Rodger are going well and expect an announcement to be made shortly. Paul Groves however said yesterday that it was not cut and dried.

Graham Rodger saw Chairman Peter Furneaux yesterday and it is understood that an agreement is close.

Paul Groves is meeting the Chairman this morning for further negotiations. The Chairman is standing firm on his statement that until the contracts are settled, negotiations with players cannot begin.

As both parties are keen to achieve an early resolution to the issues that are holding up the signings, it is expected that a result could come as early as today.

Update: Following their meeting Peter Furneaux is believed to be waiting for the board to agree to his modified resource plans, after which it is expected that Paul Groves will put pen to paper on the three year contract on offer to him.
