TV Dispute Settlement Likely?

THE football league is reported to be considering a settlement of just £60m to abandon its High Court bid to recover the £180m it is owed from ITV Digital.

The settlement is based on Carlton and Granada paying up to £15m a year to acquire the rights to show highlights of the Nationwide league games which is rumoured to be worth only £4 million a year.

Paying over the odds would end the prospect of a court case and the £60 million added to the BskyB £95 million would assist the financially strapped league clubs.

It is expected that the majority of league clubs would accept the proposal if it is presented to them which must be done soon as the first court hearing is on July 26.
