Joined Town in 1963, and then turned professional the following year and was only 17 when he made his debut for the Mariners. Over the next 14 seasons he made 420 league appearences and is the only Town player to have had two testimonials. Following an injury in training Wainman never played again for Town. After finishing in football, he owned a sports shop and now owns a hotel in Cleethorpes
