Signed for the Mariners in 1976 and made his debut against Gillingham while still an apprentice. Then in 1984 a shock was in store when Drinkell turned down a contract and Norwich came in, Town wanted £185,000 and at a tribunal he went to Norwich for a measly £105,000 after scoring 89 goals in 260 appearences for the Mariners. When Drinkell left Norwich he went to Rangers, then Coventry and Kevin made his debut for the Sky Blues against Grimsby in the 1989 League cup and scored as well!
