Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Santos Decision Looms

WITH several clubs pursuing erstwhile Mariner Georges Santos, the chances of the Cape Verdes international signing up for a new deal with Grimsby look slim. Although the out-of-contract midfielder trained at Blundell Park last week, that could well be his last action there.

"I've done the pre-season with Grimsby, so if I have to go back to Grimsby or go somewhere else, I will be ready," last season's Player of the Year told Radio Humberside, also saying that a final decision will be made this week.

Although Grimsby and Santos nominally are still in talks, the gap between the player's wage demands and what Town are prepared to offer looks too big to bridge, particularly with other parties queuing up for his signature. "George and ourselves are some way apart when it comes to figures. He's been training with us. He knows our feelings," Town boss Paul Groves revealed.
