Daws - Loan Or Contract?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 18/01/2004

WILL Nicky Daws be offered a contract by Town? On Friday night it was announced that Daws had been signed on a month's loan. But so too was Alan Pouton who departed for Gillingham.

The reason for the loan agreement was that Gillingham failed to sign Pouton before the Friday noon deadline, but a loan agreement is not subject to the same rule and Pouton played for the Gills on Saturday.

That same scenario also applied to the Daws signing. As the transfer deadline was missed, Daws was signed on loan.

Reports suggest that Gillingham will be signing Pouton on a contract either today or tomorrow.

That could also be the case with Daws and Town. It remains to be seen if he is placed on contract or a season long loan? So far there has been no intimation from the club which way they will go. If Daws is seen only as a stop gap, does that mean that Groves will be looking to bring in a fresh face to Blundell Park?

If he is still the manager that is.
