Fishy Feedback

By: The Fishy Regulars
Date: 13/05/2004

THE Fishy's electronic postbag has been bulging following the relegation of Grimsby to Division Three and subsequent speculation about the new manager. We bring you the latest feedback from the fans.

Bill Coxon, a supporter for 65 years based in Canada says:

Being a Town supporter from afar and unable to get to any game, I have to rely on Fishy reports, the chat line and sportsnet on the computer. One thing has been obvious from the start, hiring Groves as manager and not firing him at the end of last season is the main reason for our present situation.

For that the board must take full responsibility. Please don't come up with that rubbish about how broke the club is. Other clubs with no more money than Town (some with less) have done quite well. The reality is that the club is exactly where they belong: in the 3rd div:

With a poor ground, no money and no support, they can't even belong in Div 2. I used to laugh at some on the chat line when we were in Div 1 that with a little bit of luck we can be in the Premiership, what a joke. From what I hear, the new manager is no better than Groves and he will have to go. I am and always will be a Mariners supporter wherever the team plays.

In the last season and half unfortunately Grimsby Town have been in free fall and it's all to do with the so called board we have got in charge of our beloved club. Since they gave Paul Groves and then Nicky Law the manager's job they have proved their knowledge about football is none.

Now their incompetence is showing by the lack of effort in finding a new manager now the season has finished, so the time is right for the supporters who bought shares to get together and at least force a EGM to get the answers to the questions that are always appearing on the Fishy's message board about the club's way forward in this mess.

It's been posted that 5% of the share capital is needed to force this EGM so I wonder if this figure is possible - if so how soon can it be done as the longer we are in the dark about the club the better the board will be happy?

We all know that all the boards at Blundell park have been media shy when there is a crisis or like Saturday they misinform us about goings on at Grimsby Town by saying there's going to be an announcement after a board meeting and even go to the expense of sending this out in a text message and then when push comes to shove they try and retract things by using the official site and papering over the cracks they have made.

So to all shareholders who use and contribute to the fishy are you happy with the way the club is treating you and if not will you use your shares to get some answers if it mean expense that the directors could have saved in this matter, I'll be waiting to see how many will help me and let me know at bluecrest_boy@hotmail.com.

A Town fan says

I am aware that there are plans in place to regenerate the docks area of the town using ERDF funding and regional development funding from Yorkshire Forward - why have the club not got involved in this process and chosen the best location for a new ground - on this site?! Great connections road & rail - heritage links and also funding from other agencies to assist. This has been done elsewhere on a similar scale and if properly planned could include business park, retail and hotel development alongside - do NE Lincs talk to the club about this stuff or do the club have an idea that these conversations are currently underway between funders?

If the club want a future it has to be away from Blundell Park and linked closer with the local economy and community too! You could create a fantastic asset to be used by all - you can't tell me that BP despite emotional ties is in any way an asset for the town.
