THE Game started off quite slowly, with Lincoln getting the better of the opening exchanges. It was a very scrappy match initially, with neither side really threatening the other's goal.

Then a Lincoln player hit a fierce shot which dipped and swerved in front of Rob Murray, who just managed to palm it on to the bar. The game continued with very little happening, Lincoln happy just to knock high balls in to the area to test Murray.
Town started to get into the game towards the end of the half with some crisp passing and movement. The first goal came just before half time, a corner (or free kick) was lobbed into the Lincoln area, met by a Rob Jones header which the keeper managed to block. Luckily it fell to Heggarty about 10 yards out who smashed in a half-volley off the underside of the bar.
The second half has a lot more open than the first, and two quick Town goals virtually settled the game. The first came when a ball was played from the right wing along the deck into their box; the Lincoln defenders left it for their keeper, but they hadn't noticed Heggarty sneaking up behind them who took one touch before slipping it under their keeper.
The third was a very strange goal. Marcelle, who had a very good game, had the ball on the right wing and knocked it over the Lincoln defence, but too far for our forwards to chase. Out came the Lincoln keeper to clean up, only for him to slip in an almost "banana-skin" type way, leaving the ball to roll into an empty net.
Town could have had another within 5 minutes after Danny North sprinted through the defence, leaving two players in his wake, pulled it back to Clint Marcelle who hit the bar from 6 yards and Heggarty put the follow-up well over the bar.
Lincoln pulled one goal back, but I don't know what happened, I was watching the steward throw some kid out for buggering about. Our 4th was an own-goal. Marcelle beat one player on the left wing, drifted inside and was up-ended by a scything challenge.
A free-kick was taken quickly, and their keeper came out to claim the ball, only for it to flick off the head of one of his team mates and into his net. Game over. The fifth was a very good goal, nice work from Heggarty on the left side allowed him to come across the pitch, and play a nice pass to Ashton, whose first touch outwitted the advancing left back, leaving him to slip it into the bottom corner. Rob Jones, who had been solid all game, and must surely be in first team contention if it wasn't for the likes of Forbes, had to be substituted after a clash of heads left him nursing a cut under his left eye. Lincoln pulled two back in the last ten minutes, through some quick play which left the defence a little flat-footed and Murray with little he could do.
Ronnie Bull, Rob Jones, Clint Marcelle, Nick Heggarty and Ashley Hildred (I think) all had very good games. Heggarty is still a bit lightweight to be playing in the first team, but if he builds his strength up, then he could definitely be one to watch in the future.
