The Gay Meadow side have changed their manager since they met Town back in October - in fact, the game against Town was Jimmy Quinn’s last as the Shrews manager. He was replaced by former Preston manager Gary Peters (left) in November and although hasn’t pulled up too many trees, has successfully navigated the club away from the drop zone. Their draw with Bury earlier in the week saw them move 8 points from the relegation places.
Scott Howie (left) is an experienced goalkeeper, formerly of Bristol Rovers and Reading, who joined the club in the summer on a free transfer. He is supported by defender Darren Tilson and Dave Ridler, who were both team mates at Macclesfield Town. A major coup in the summer was the return of centre back Dave Walton who had a spell with the club between 1993 and 1997 before stays at Crewe and Derby. In midfield is long serving winger Sam Aiston, who was signed for £50,000 from Sunderland in 1999. An unpredictable midfielder, Aiston can cause problems for any side at this level. In attack is Luke Rodgers, has constantly hit 15 goals or more a season, for the past three. However, this year is proving a difficult one for the Birmingham born striker, with just 4 goals in 29 appearances. Rodgers has not scored since the end of September and Town will want to make sure that doesn’t change.
Duane Darby (left). Former Hull and Rushden hit man who has lots of experience at this level. Not been a regular this season but has recently come into the side and scored last weekend in their 4-1 win over Orient. Struggling to be fit for this game, but the Shrews will hope to have the determination and enthusiasm of Darby in attack.

Town have the slightly better record against the Shrews - with 20 wins to their 14. The last time the two sides met at Blundell Park, however, was in Town’s famous 1997/98 season in the FA Cup. Town won the replay 4-0, starting a run that saw them end up with a big tie with Leeds at Elland Road. In that game, Shrewbury had two players sent off (Herbert and Taylor) and Kevin Jobling got the last goal, before joining the Shrews that very next season.

The two sides met last October in a 1-1 draw at Gay Meadow. Town took the lead after just 5 minutes with a Terry Fleming goal. As has happened too many times this season, the Mariners dominated the first half but then let it slip in the second with Jake Sedgemore getting a goal on 77 minutes - a Anthony Williams howler. Jimmy Quinn left the club soon after this game, paving the way for Gary Peters to take over.
