Who Are Ya: Walsall

By: Richard Hubbert
Date: 04/08/2006

WITH the new season almost upon us, it's time to cast an eye upon the teams in League Two for 2006-2007. Richard Hubbert turns his attention to Walsall.

Key PlayerIan Roper. They say that all good teams build from the back and if that is to be the case at Walsall, they will need Roper to perform. A product of the clubs youth system, Roper returned in November last season but despite some impressive outings could not halt the Saddlers slide into League Two. If he can cope with the physical side of the basement division, Walsall will have a great foundation to build upon.
StrengthsA couple of decent centre halves in Roper and Chris Westwood with Trinidadian keeper Clayton Ince behind them. Also, the return to fitness of Darren Wrack could prove vital as the season wears on.
WeaknessesNew manager, new players. It could take a while for Walsall to gel. Also, how Richard Money will fare after 12 years out of full time management in England is unclear.
Prediction18th. At least one club relegated from League One struggles in the basement division, and I think it could be Walsall.

Next Team: Wrexham
