Shame on You, Humberside!

I feel that the fall-out - instigated I might add by BBC Radio Humberside - with Grimsby Town FC is a great shame, simply because the money involved is not a great deal to argue over.

The Mariners last season for instance had two fabulous cup games against Newcastle and Spurs which filled Blundell Park on both occasions.

Radio Humberside had unlimited access to interviews with both set of players from each team. Also as the season progressed, and the Mariners were always in the top three, every game was duly covered to its full potential by Radio Humberside. The point I am making is that BBC Radio Humberside get extremely good value from the deal.

Now don't get me wrong, every bit of publicity for the football club helps, no matter how small or big, whether it is with Radio Humberside, Viking FM, Compass FM, the Grimsby Evening Telegraph, it all helps. The club has to take the good and the bad criticism, even the sometime acid comments from Dave Burns, we get used to it in football. I personally get on alright with Dave Burns I think he orchestrates his programme very well indeed; in fact I have been on it myself, commentating on Town on numerous occasions, it's good fun.

According to my information I stress it is not Town who have withdrawn talking to BBC Radio Humberside: Town have left the door open. Town have been offered the ridiculous sum of £5.000 and also the attachments that go with it: season tickets, prominent advertising space, access to player interviews are included in that figure, and it is a take it or leave it situation. Now who is the bully here given the Football Club are still ready to talk to Radio Humberside?

I say well done John Fenty, you stick up for this club of ours. We might be in the lower divisions at the moment and we might need money urgently, but we have our pride. Also I know this to be a fact: do you know how much the Football Club received last year? £2.000! Come on Radio Humberside, especially the station's Managing Editor, Mr. Simon Pattern, pick the phone up and come up with a respectable offer, one that the Football club could consider with respect and the club will gladly resume talks again. I will say it again, BBC Radio Humberside halted the discussions, let's get back talking again.
